Scope of Services

Engineer/ Technician Working on a Personal Computer with Two Displays, He's Designing New Component

EDP provide the following professional services:

Design of all building services systems, together with additional specialist systems associated with, Attractions, Cinemas, Aquaria, Rides, Ticketing and POS, guest interactive infotainment systems, photo opportunity systems, battery charging, renewable energy, military standard security systems, transport power systems, integration of AV systems and special effects.

The lighting design service provided by both Peter and Eddie comprises software driven full 3D modelling, calculations, adjusted photometric data for bespoke lighting components, product technical information, materials schedule and where required full procurement of the necessary components.

The approach is to employ leading edge components, closely controlled, having little impact on the designer’s concept or enhancing as directed by the project brief.

The majority of our projects are produced employing BIM 3D software (Autodesk Revit), with direct output to our calculation software systems. This was instigated in 2014 and has been developed incrementally to produce a large library of internally created intricate parametric family objects.

For smaller projects we consider producing designs in 2D format.

Typical Multi-Stage Projects

  • Development of outline schemes, main distribution routes, risers, plant and equipment spaces
  • Refined scheme designs, information gathering, load assessments and initial cost plan
  • Production of builder’s work schedule
  • Detailed designs to tender stage, production of specifications and tender documents
  • Production of planning drawings and information to planning approval
  • Tender analysis and report
  • Production of construction drawings and documents
  • Site supervision, site inspections, witnessed testing and interim costs control
  • Production of snagging and outstanding works schedules
  • Final account negotiations and agreement

Throughout the above stages, regular internal design audits and value engineering exercises will be carried out. The speed of development of new lighting systems, cooling systems and the like may affect the design on larger projects. EDP feel it is imperative that these elements are constantly monitored and amended if thought of benefit.

The audits incorporate co-ordination checks, outstanding information review and progress against the project design programme.

EDP Approach to Design

We aim to deliver designs that employ leading technology in specification, that are cost effective, energy efficient, providing ease of installation and uncomplicated for ongoing maintenance. We also endeavour to fully support our clients and the design teams we work with.

EDP Special Knowledge

The practice is very familiar with the stringent requirements of working in listed buildings and designing to deliver efficient M+E installation packages with little or no effect on the building fabric.

EDP has frequently delivered projects in listed buildings that required the design to meet the additional requirements of Section 20 and Places of Entertainment regulations.
